Top Start Smart by Saving
Use coupons. You probably get them in the mail every week anyway, so take a look through them. There may be coupons for things you actually buy, in which case, saving even a few cents each week can add up to a lot of savings. (That way you can splurge on a treat for yourself with all that money you’ve saved!) Shop the sale rack. Even without coupons, supermarkets and clothing stores most often have something on sale. For groceries and pharmacy items, look for price cut markers. For clothing and other goods, shop often for shorter periods of time. Things often go on sale every few weeks, so save the major shopping trip and try shopping in small increments. Buy bulk. If you find yourself buying a lot of the same item, over and over, buy it in bulk. Family sizes are often more economical than individual sizes. If you or a friend belongs to a wholesale store, use the membership to buy household staples like toilet paper, diapers, and other regular needs. Save on toys. Family activities will occupy the kids and won’t require a trip to the toy store. Get outside, build a fort, bake cookies, or snuggle up on the couch with a book or movie. Also, don’t be afraid to say no to new toys if money is tight – spend some brain power instead and think of a game to play. Keep those pennies. Loose change adds up and it often gets lost in the cracks of the couch or in the bottom of your purse. Many banks offer free coin rolls and some even have coin counting machines to turn your coins into dollars. Green your home. When you are saving water, energy, or electricity it often means saving money too. Turn off the faucet and the lights when you’re not using them. Use a fan instead of blasting air conditioning. Reduce, reuse, recycle! TopCoping with Mommy Meltdowns
If you need to take a break – do it. Either call the babysitter or have some alone time while your child is napping. Have a healthy snack, release some energy on a power walk or swimming, get your nails done, go shopping, or read a book. Anything that can temporarily get your mind off of all those responsibilities will be refreshing. While pushing through may seem like the best idea, it might just make things harder. Take a short break, take a deep breath, and do something that you like. Afterwards you will feel better and when you feel better things tend to be easier to handle. TopPreparing and Packing for Family Vacations
Next comes packing. Versatility is key when deciding what to bring. Choose clothing that can be worn more than once or can be worn in many outings while on vacation. Allow yourself enough choices without bringing your whole wardrobe. Keep weather in mind and grab a rain slicker or a sweater for you and your child. Rolling clothes is a great space saver in any suitcase or duffel and helps keep your clothes wrinkle-free. If you have any pets, be sure to ask a friend or relative in advance if they can pet sit. Throw out your trash so you don’t come home to the smell of rotten food and diapers. And as tempting as it is to leave as soon as you can, tidying up before you go will make coming home more enjoyable. Make sure everyone’s used the bathroom, grab a few snacks for the road, and start relaxing! Top Get Shopping on Safety1st.com!Safety 1st® OnBoard™ Infant Car Seat

Brady’s home is full of Safety 1st products, including the Wood Bassinet and Wood High Chair, which he will hopefully be able to use soon. After trying a few other products and strollers, Brady’s mom just loves the Eddie Bauer® Endeavor Travel System and is really looking forward to using the Quinny® Buzz™ stroller. After 7 years of working with Safety 1st car seats, Dot says she wouldn’t put her kids in anything other than a Safety 1st product. Luckily, Dot gets to see Brady, Brandon, and Brylin all the time since they live just a few houses from each other. Together, they love to go shopping, to watch Brandon and Brilyn’s sports games, and to stroll around the neighborhood. Brandon likes to play Chinese Checkers with his grandma, and has event beat her a few times! Though Brady is still on formula, Brandon and Brilyn love it when Grandma takes them out for Chinese food. Dot’s favorite part of being a grandma is being able to play with her grandkids all of the time and spoiling them. “It’s a whole new life being a grandparent!” says Dot. Though the red, white, and blue hubbub of Independence Day is fizzling out, summer fun is just firing up, quite literally, as the fourth of July is marked by backyard barbeques and fireworks meant for the whole family to enjoy. This national holiday celebrates the approval of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Fireworks have come to signify celebrations, mostly because they are fun to watch and bring many people together to view the spectacle of color in the sky. Fireworks are exciting to view but can also be dangerous; be careful to read all directions and keep children away from anyone setting them off at barbeques and picnics. Grab a blanket, blow up those swim floaties, and enjoy.
We’re proud to announce that our newly designed website
Doing what’s best for your family doesn’t have to mean doing what’s most expensive. There are many ways to start saving money for your family. We’ve compiled a list of things you can do to start saving right away.
As the July heat melts just about everything around you, your mood might be melting too. The good thing about meltdowns is that they can always be wiped up. Take a moment to breathe deeply and calm down. When something rubs you wrong or the heat just gets to your head, take a moment to stop as soon as you recognize something isn’t right. When you get anxious or emotional, your breathing often speeds up. Taking deep breaths will help balance your breathing and your emotions.
So your calendar is clear and your reservations are booked but you’ve still got to get the family ready to go. It may be helpful to write down important information like your destination address and phone number, flight number if you have one, and any other important addresses and phone numbers that may be helpful to you. If you want to visit any places, find out directions ahead of time and take those with you too. Taking the extra time to research before you get to your destination will make the vacation itself much more enjoyable.

This month we spoke with Dot Day, Safety 1st Consumer Relations Specialist, about her new grandson Brady Charles Terrell. Dot thinks his cutest habit is the way he opens his mouth: he puts his mouth in the shape of a circle and sometimes sticks his tongue out a little! Brady loves to sleep in the car, and luckily gets to spend a lot of time driving with mom to pick up his older siblings. His 12 year old sister Brilynwants to hold him all the time and his brother Brandon, 7, is often caught trying to pick him up too! Dot says Brandon is very excited to have another boy in the family, since Dot’s other four grandkids are all girls.
