Dorel Juvenile Group USA Wins Toys "R" Us Vendor of the Year Award Makes Grand Entrance into Battery-Powered Ride On Category
CANTON, MA (April 1, 2005) – Dorel Juvenile Group USA, an operating subsidiary of Dorel Industries Inc. (TSX: DII.SV, DII.MV; NASDAQ: DIIB), celebrates a triumphant first year in the battery-powered ride on category as Toys “R” Us’ 2004 Ride On Toy Vendor of the Year. The Vendor of the Year Award recognizes a company for its outstanding commitment, dedication and attention in helping Toys “R” Us be the worldwide resource for kids, families and fun. This honor follows the successful debut of the Corvette C5-R, the introductory item in Safety 1st’s new line of Kid Trax Battery-Powered Ride On Vehicles. In February, 2004, the Safety 1st Corvette C5-R was introduced at 200 select Toys “R” Us stores. After selling out in just a few weeks, the product was rolled out to the entire chain and became a consistent top seller at Toys “R” Us during the 2004 Christmas season. New Corvette styles and other ride on vehicles including a Safety 1st Kid Trax Fire Engine were added to the line to satisfy the growing demand from consumers.
Unique Safety 1st features such as realistic body designs, factory-applied decals and added play value in and around the vehicle distinguish the new line of Kid Trax ride on toys from its competitors. The Corvette C5-R’s working FM radio and the Fire Engine’s real water pump, spray hose and megaphone are just some examples of how Safety 1st added excitement and innovation to the category.
“The ride on category was dominated by 4x4 trucks and jeeps. With the introduction of our two-seater Corvette C5-R, Dorel Juvenile Group USA successfully innovated the category and presented Toys “R” Us customers with a greater range of choices,” said Bruce Cazenave, President & CEO of Dorel Juvenile Group USA.
The growing line of Kid Trax Battery-Powered Ride Ons by Safety 1st will soon include the Groove ‘n Go Scooter, available at Toys “R” Us this summer. Other new and exciting ride on designs will debut later this year.
