Design Engineer
Dorel Juvenile Group is looking for a Design Engineer to join our product development team at our Design and Development Center in Foxboro, MA.
The Design Engineer is a key member of the cross functional core team and will be responsible for estimating tooling and engineering expenses during the early stages of product development. The design engineer will be responsible to ensure that products are designed and engineered to meet quality requirements set by both ASTM/CPSIA and internal requirements and projects are launched within the scheduled timeframe and within cost targets. The design engineer will be the team resource for the patents that DJG owns as well as the patents of the competitors. Introduce exceptional innovation into all products and manage a product portfolio of existing items and modifications of current items. Design Engineering can be expected to create 3D CAD utilizing Solidworks as well as create part lists for Bills of Material costing. Design Engineering will communicate with the DJG suppliers on a most efficient tool design and will support DJG China or Domestic manufacturing in the debug of product designs.
Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent work experience in engineering related fields with a good understanding of engineering principles and practices. Desired experience in juvenile products, hands on design of consumer products with emphasis on plastic and/or metal components. Four plus years of experience of consumer products manufacturing as a design engineer or product development related fields. Must be proficient with Solidworks CAD modeling and Microsoft Office programs. Must display competency in creating Bills of Materials and creating critical dimension drawings. Must have a good understanding of injection molded plastic part design and manufacturing practices. Must have good evaluation skills and the ability to make corrective actions based on analysis of testing. Must be a team player and have the ability to work in a fast paced environment. Must be an organized, detail-oriented, creative, confident, self-motivated, results focused individual with the ability to demonstrate a solid personal commitment to the company's success and profitability. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills interfacing with all levels of management and foreign offices. This person will have a sound working knowledge of plastic and steel part design and design for manufacturing practices. Strong technical skills integrated with excellent planning, organization, and follow through abilities a must. Domestic and International travel is required, Far East travel may be between 2-3 times a year averaging 2 weeks in duration or as required.
