FAQs : Convertible Car Seats
- What should I do if the harness on my Cosco® Scenera® convertible car seat shows signs of weave separation or wear?
Separation of the weave occurs when the harness gets out of its proper position behind the pointed guides on the bottom of the car seat shell. The harness should lay behind the guides on the bottom of the shell. If the harness slides over the pointed guides on the bottom of the shell, when the harness is tightened, the points press into the weave causing the separation.
We will be happy to replace your harness with a new harness. The webbing on the new harness strap is significantly different and resists weave separation or other wear caused by the points on the guides. Along with the new harness, we will ship instructions and a reminder label to place on your car seat. The label will provide an easy visual aid to ensure the new webbing is in the correct position behind the pointed guides.
Please call 1-800-544-1108 and you will be transferred to a specialist who will answer any questions you may have, and place a no charge order for a new harness, instructions, and reminder label.
- Is my current harness strap compromised?
- Dorel Juvenile Group conducted extensive testing that shows that weave separation does not degrade the strength of the original harness strap. Even though the appearance of the strap may give the perception of being compromised, it is not. Please continue to use your car seat until your replacement harness arrives.
- What kind of testing has been conducted?
- Both crash testing and break strength testing has been performed on Scenera® car seats with harnesses that were abraded and/or had weave separation or holes. This testing has been reviewed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
- Can I cut the points off my car seat shell?
- Do not alter the shell of your car seat as a remedy to this harness separation. Altering the shell of the car seat by removing the points could jeopardize the integrity of the shell, resulting in poor or failed performance in the event of a crash.
