Dorel Juvenile Group Helps Room to Grow Provide Strollers to Babies Born into Poverty
BOSTON and NEW YORK, May 23, 2011 – Room to Grow, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of babies born into poverty in Boston and New York City, is hosting a stroller drive from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day to help parents safely navigate their children through the streets of their neighborhoods. Foxboro based Dorel Juvenile Group USA (DJG), a division of Dorel Industries (TSX: DII.B, DII.A) and the nation’s largest juvenile products manufacturer, has teamed up with Room to Grow to supply the strollers, ensuring parents raising babies in poverty are less isolated and better equipped to travel with their child. For every $75 donation, Room to Grow will purchase a new stroller at-cost from DJG for one of its families. Plus, DJG will match all gifts, doubling Room to Grow’s allotment of strollers to distribute. The company will also assist Room to Grow in selecting a variety of strollers to complement the diverse needs of its clients.
Room to Grow provides parents raising babies in poverty with customized parenting support and baby essentials, including clothing, books, educational toys and gear, such as strollers, during the critical first three years of development. This year, 250 new parents will enroll in the three-year program: 150 families in Boston and 100 in New York City.
“As poverty levels continue to rise, so does the need for Room to Grow,” says Saskia Epstein, Executive Director of Room to Grow in Boston. “In order for us to succeed, we depend on the kindness of individuals and corporations in our community, like Dorel Juvenile Group, who is helping us secure much needed strollers for our families.”
Dorel Juvenile Group USA is the maker of Cosco® Juvenile, Safety 1st®, Maxi-Cosi® and Quinny® products and has joined forces with Room to Grow for the annual stroller drive. The company is dedicated to providing a safer world for children, and is devoted to helping Room to Grow enrich the lives of babies born into poverty.
“We are thrilled to be continuing our partnership with Room to Grow, benefitting children and their families in our community. Furthermore, the annual stroller drive is the perfect opportunity to come together and give back, an integral part of our mission at DJG,” says Lisa Abdinoor, Vice President of Sales for Dorel Juvenile Group.
