Dorel Juvenile Group, Inc. To Conduct A Safety Recall for Designer 22 Rear-Facing Infant Child Restraints Sold with Select Travel SystemsThe National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that the Dorel Juvenile Group, Inc. (DJG) will conduct a safety recall campaign involving about 190,000 Safety 1st, and Cosco, Eddie Bauer brand rear-facing infant child safety seats. Dorel Juvenile Group, Inc has received complaints that if the harness is not properly tightened, the infant seat can experience web movement, or web creep. In the event of a crash the child may not be properly restrained, increasing the risk of injury. No injuries have been reported. The models involved in the recall were sold only as travel systems (with a stroller) and are as follows:
- Safety 1st: 22-325CMB GB1B, 22-325VIN GB1B, 22-325DTA GB1B, AND 22-325TST GB1B.
- Cosco: 22-300JOS GB1B
- Eddie Bauer: 22625AFD GB1B, 22-625GLC GB1B, 22-625EDG GB1B, and 22-625 MAC GB1B.
Only those restraints manufactured between August 19, 2003 and October 20, 2004 are affected. It is important to note the GB1B line code located next to the model number on the child restraint indicates that the unit was manufactured by Good Baby and is the only line included in the recall. Any line code other than GB1B, such as DE1B, is not included in the recall.
Dorel Juvenile Group, Inc will mail a free repair kit consisting of two harness clips along with installation instructions to owners who returned their registration cards. NHTSA encourages parents to obtain and install the repair kit as soon as possible, so that the child seat provides maximum protection for the child. In the meantime, parents are advised to make sure that the seat is properly adjusted while in use. Parents should continue to use the seat while waiting to receive and install the repair kit because the seat still provides better protection than an adult seat belt or no restraint.
